Here is an article about the difference between parenting in the US and Germany. I think we could learn a lot from our friends in Europe.

What at do you think about German parenting?

Great article by the mother of a child with learning difficulties

This is a fantastic account of why our system is broken. Dr. Richard and I have been talking about these types of issues for years. It is great to see that others are coming out and talking about the problems as well!

Interesting article about raising narcissistic children

I think that it is a question many parents ask; “Am I raising my children to be healthy adults?” This is an interesting article about recent research into how we may be creating a generation of narcissists. While giving out trophies for participation is one example, I have recently been struggling with parents’ tendency to preach to their children that they can “be anything they want to be,” when in reality, the parents are not giving them the tools that are needed to be successful (i.e., independence, socialization, critical thinking, problem solving, etc.). Leads to a situation I had, where the parent of one of my students called me about the grade I gave her child in class. Oh, did I mention that it was a graduate student?!?

Are you raising a potentially narcissistic child? If not, what advice would you give other parents to avoid this problem?

Article from IFLscience.com on Marijuana and Bipolar Disorder

It is a short article, but outlines the findings of a study where Bipolar patients, who also use marijuana, write daily diaries about their marijuana use and mood states. Interestingly, they found that marijuana use INCREASED the occurrence of depressed and manic states! While the patients were using because they thought marijuana helped them, some realized that it didn’t and cut back their use after reading their own diaries!

Should this alter our feelings about medicinal marijuana?

Check out the article here. http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/daily-diary-reveals-how-cannabis-use-affects-people-bipolar
