When we were in school, most of us had the opportunity to have recess. Just a 20-30 minute break in the middle of the day to interrupt the academics and help us reset our brains for the rest of the school day. Unfortunately, along with many other important “specials” (such as music, art, and PE), recess has been sacrificed for more “Academic Engaged Time.” In this column we talk about the importance of recess and the primary reason for its near extinction.

Paedeia Episode 3: History of School Reform: School reform is not a new concept. The first round of school reform… fb.me/4xK2BdVcU
School reform is not a new concept. The first round of school reform began in the 1800s, when our early leaders decided that our country would benefit from having educated citizens. Over the years, as social issues evolved in our country, so did our education system. With each change, came a call for school reform.
In this episode of Paedeia, Drs. Berney and Richard review the history of school reform and discuss the current reform model. They review concerns that many have with our current movement and suggest some considerations for change. So have a listen and let us know what you think!
