We tend to consider athletes to be mentally strong, stable, and confident. We watch them compete in front of thousands of spectators, and can only imagine them as having a tremendous ability to focus and tune-out various forms of stress.

The reality, however, is that athletes experience stress. They become overwhelmed and frustrated. Mental health issues can have a profound effect on the athlete’s physical and emotional performance. In this podcast, Dr. Berney talks about three important factors parents of student athletes should consider when encouraging and promoting their children’s involvement in sports.
